About DONALD
I graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music with a degree as a concert pianist. I subsequently studied African- American Gospel piano styles in Chicago and Brazilian popular music styles in Rio de Janeiro. I studied voice for 7 years, and took classes in child vocal pedagogy and the Kodály method of music education. I have worked as a general music teacher and choral conductor with adult choirs and children's choirs in Chicago, San Francisco, Mexico City and Asunción, Paraguay.I presently work as a pedagogy and piano teacher in the University Center of Musical Studies in Querétaro, Mexico. I am fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese and I am able to teach in each of these languages.

I teach music theory using the Kodály music pedagogy method with an emphasis on singing and understanding scales, intervals, triads and basic harmonic progressions. Beginning with Edwin Gordon's rhythmic concepts, I use the Kodály rhythm syllables to teach simple and complex rhythms in regular and irregular meters. I help students understand how music theory concepts can be used to understand the masterworks of the classical music tradition as well as how these concepts are utilized in popular music styles from the US and around the world.
I have experience teaching general music, choral rehearsals and piano lessons to children from kindergarten through high school and to adults from beginners to advanced music students.
