I have M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering majoring in control, robotics, and machine learning. Filtering, signal processing, control, robotics, neural networks, algebra, vision, and reinforcement learning are my areas of expertise. Now I am a junior PhD candidate at Simon Fraser University majoring in computer science. I have been tutoring in programming since 2018. Currently, I am working as a professional and experienced software programmer, machine learning, and statistics tutor in metro Vancouver. To observe my academic background, just simply google my name Pedram Agand :)

About the lesson

My teaching method differs from one person to another; however, I try to convey the underlying concepts first and then try to dive into the specified subject. At the very beginning of every session, I try to recap what we have learned in the previous session. During my 5 years of tutoring, I found it more efficient to teach the fundamental ideas and challenge the learner to generalize that concept.

Perfect! Pedram is a patient and understanding individual. As a student suffering from ADHD, it can be challenging to deal with a student like me. As best as he could, he attempted to explain everything through drawings. It is also important to note that he is down to earth and easy going, so you can ask him to repeat a million times without offending him. As a teacher, I believe patience is a vital characteristic, and Pedram possesses that quality. My sincere gratitude goes out to you. Pedram's sessions will be beneficial to everyone.

I had trouble in C programming and algorithm course. I am a computer science student in UBC. I ask Pedram to help me out for both of those courses. I have learned a lot by the tutoring and was able to do my assignments for two courses. I think he is very talented, if I had any other problems in programming I would ask him again.

For my recent project for reinforcement learning in university, I need some basic understanding of the concept, since it seems too abstract for me. I try to learn in with Pedram. He taught me Python programming with GYM module for simple cases. The way he convey the high level concepts make me totally digest the underlying concept. If future, I also will ask him to help me through.

Pedram was my tutor for electrical engineering course (linear algebra) for about two years ago. The professor was not clear and I was about failing the course. After 7 session of tutoring, I could pass the course successfully and understand it as well. He was also teaching me MATLAB programming for my other course which for me as a person with no programming background was comprehensible. I think he is very confident about his knowledge and know how to convey the information.

I have three courses with Pedram; machine learning, robust control and MATLAB. He always teach in the easiest way possible which make it more comprehensible. He has also a scenes of humour, so it is fun time too. I've learned how to code neural networks and train them in MATLAB with Pedram for my master thesis.

When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?
I have a deep feeling for algorithm and machine learning. I have started my first machine learning project in the last term of my undergrad. I enrolled in Electrical engineering, control major, but I choose my project in line of computer science field and machine learning. I think machine learning and robotics are the future of the world.
What makes you passionate about your subject?
The most important thing is my passionate towards my field. Also, designing a code which is able to make decision and mimic human abilities or even outperform it, is so cool. I am pretty sure this knowledge would help me a lot to endeavour in my future career path.
What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?
The answer to this question for me lies behind two facts. First, teaching others would help myself to dive in the knowledge I have and be more professional on it. On the other hand, tutoring and helping other students to thrive on their academic way is priceless. This would somehow change their life path, by understanding the real genuine interest.
Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
My teacher role model of all time is my supervisor in bachelor and master degree. He was so clever and strong in understanding which choose to teach just because of his personal preference. During his teaching, or even when he was having his weekly meeting, he was so involved and interested and convey that vibe to the students. I can admit that the first touch of my interest toward machine learning concepts was ignited by him.
What are your keys to success?
The key to success is enjoying what you are doing at every step of your life and persistence. If one keep struggling along their goals, no matter what they would be successful. The final tip is to be in-touch with motivated person and environment, getting help from professionals on your field can pave the way for you.
