About Cooper
I am a rising senior Studio Composition major at SUNY Purchase, and am well versed in music theory and composition of all genres and styles (classical, jazz, folk, rock, and more). My classical compositions have won awards as part of Tribeca New Music, and have been performed by ensembles such as the PUBLIQuartet. I also am part of a gigging band that has played at venues across New York City. I have been able to help students with basic instrument proficiency write a full fledged song in less than a week. I have been practicing music theory for 7 years, classical and jazz composition for 6 years, and songwriting/lyric writing for 4 years.

I typically work with younger students at beginner and intermediate levels. For music theory lessons, I will often start off with some warm up exercises to get the student's mind focused on theory, and then dive straight into the concept that they need to work on. For composition lessons, I will always try and tailor my lessons to what the student wants to learn, which I will assess from the first lesson. My composition lessons will almost always include an analysis of existing works for form, melody, harmony, and oftentimes lyrical content. I ultimately want to make sure the student enjoys what they are doing, so that it will be that much easier to introduce them to new technical and creative concepts to help them achieve their goals.
