About Caitlin
I am a composer, singer and teacher based in Oxford. I learnt piano from a young age, when growing up in the fens
of Lincolnshire, before taking up singing and the harp. I began my formal music education at the age of sixteen at
Birmingham Junior Conservatoire as their first primary study composition student where I studied for two years under
Lee Differ. I subsequently took part in the Sound and Music Summer School in 2011 and 2013, working with freelance professional musicians and composition teachers from the Purcell School of Music and Royal Northern College of Music. I was a composer for the BBC Stream of Sound project in 2012 where I composed and performed with members of the BBC Symphony Orchestra for a concert in the Barbican Centre. I was a finalist in the Ernest Read Symphony Orchestra’s Emerging Composers Competition 2020, NCEM Young Composers Competition 2020 and Henfrey Composition Prize 2021, adjudicated by Judith Weir. I was a composer for Adopt a Music Creator 2022 (run by Sound and Music, Making Music and the PRS Foundation) and wrote for both the Aldworth Philharmonic
Orchestra and Reading Youth Orchestra.
In July 2018 I finished my undergraduate studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance where I was
mentored by Deirdre Gribbin and Stephen Montague. I completed an Erasmus+ exchange to the Grażyna and Kiejstut
Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź, Poland, from September 2016 until February 2017 where I studied with Zygmunt Krauze. I graduated with an MPhil in composition, achieved with distinction, from the University of Oxford in 2021 where I studied under head of composition, Professor Robert Saxton. I have written for a variety of forces, from orchestras and choirs of varying sizes to intimate solo and chamber works. My pieces have been performed by, amongst others, the Kreutzer Quartet, Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, London Euphonia Orchestra, Ensemble ISIS, New College Choir Oxford, BBC Singers, Exeter College Choir Oxford, Ex Corde Vocal Ensemble, Ernest Read
Symphony Orchestra, Trio Atem, St Wulfram’s Choir Grantham, St Gertrude’s Choir Cincinnati (Ohio, US) and broadcast on BBC Radio 3. I have had my works performed in the UK, Poland, France, Germany, Mexico and the US.

I am very passionate about teaching and have worked with a range of young people ageing from six to eighteen as well as adults. Alongside private composition tuition, I taught composition, advanced music theory and aural training at the Peterborough Centre for Young Musicians from September 2018 to March 2022, EF Academy, Oxford and currently at the Oxford Children’s Chamber Orchestra (OCCO) hosted by New College School. My composition students have been shortlisted in the BBC Inspire Day Young Composers competition, Guildhall Young Artists competition and admitted to Junior and Senior Conservatoires as well as Oxbridge.
I have a high record of success in tutoring GCSE and A Level music across all boards, my students frequently achieving A and A*s. The same can be said for ABRSM Music Theory which I tutor up to and including Grade 8. An enthusiastic and knowledgeable teacher, I also take pride in building and friendly rapport with my students, exciting them about learning some of the hardest but most rewarding aspects of music.
