About Emmett
I’ve taught privately and in the classroom for over 10 years, have played professionally live and in the studio for over 15 years, have a BM in music and composition from UofA, an associate in jazz performance at SCC, and was taught from an early age by my father Kenneth LaFave who holds a master's in composition and who has had his works performed by world-class orchestras.

You will learn how to play your instrument and you will understand how music works so you can play more quickly, by ear or sheet music, and make your own music.
I believe that understanding music theory, that is, how and why music works, makes playing it, remembering, making it and enjoying it exponentially easier. If you can unlock those tools you will unlock the key to another world.
The piano is a versatile instrument that calls home to every genre under the sun. It is considered fundamental for all musicians to understand, but it is also of course a virtuosic instrument capable of being played by the best of the best.
