I only really started enjoying studying when I learned that understanding is the key. It became so much more simple, and concepts 'clicked' more easily.
I tend to take the approach of going back to basics when necessary, if there is a gap in your understanding from a couple of years ago, this will show in your understanding of more complex issues. Sorting out the basics will make the more difficult concepts easier to grasp.
