About Titus

Experienced LPN & Former EMT | Nursing, EMS & Writing

ABOUT ME

Hi! I’m Titus, an experienced Licensed Practical Nurse and former EMT with more than 15 years of combined experience in healthcare, emergency medical services, behavioral health, long-term care, residential healthcare, and healthcare operations.

I specialize in helping students in Practical Nursing, EMT/EMS, CNA, Medical Assisting, and other allied-health programs understand difficult healthcare concepts and communicate what they know effectively in an academic setting. I also work with freshman- and sophomore-level college students who want to strengthen their academic writing, organization, research skills, and understanding of APA-style formatting.

My healthcare background gives me a perspective that is different from that of a traditional writing tutor. I completed a Practical Nursing program at Lake Technical College and an EMT college-credit certificate at the College of Central Florida. I also completed additional paramedic education and clinical training. Throughout my career, I have worked in skilled nursing, behavioral and psychiatric healthcare, residential treatment, memory care, emergency response, and healthcare leadership.

My professional experience has included direct patient care as well as healthcare supervision and operations. I have worked with admissions, patient documentation, electronic health records, staffing and scheduling, quality and medication audits, incident response, interdisciplinary communication, and coordination with healthcare providers, EMS, law enforcement, patients, and families. These experiences allow me to help students understand not only what they are reading in a textbook, but also how those concepts relate to actual healthcare environments.

One of my strongest areas is helping healthcare students who understand the clinical material but struggle to express that knowledge academically. A nursing or EMT student may understand a patient scenario perfectly when discussing it verbally but have difficulty developing that information into a well-organized academic assignment. I can help students learn how to analyze an assignment, brainstorm ideas, develop a thesis or central argument, create an outline, organize paragraphs, improve clarity, incorporate appropriate evidence, understand instructor feedback, and correctly approach APA-style citations and references.

My goal is not to do a student’s work for them. Instead, I teach students how to develop, organize, and communicate their own ideas. When reviewing written work, I explain issues involving organization, grammar, clarity, evidence, citations, and academic tone so that students understand why a revision is appropriate and can make those improvements themselves.

I am particularly comfortable assisting students with healthcare-related topics involving patient safety, documentation, behavioral health, mental health, substance-use treatment, long-term care, communication, ethics, scope of practice, healthcare operations, emergency care, clinical terminology, and interdisciplinary healthcare.

I also enjoy working with adult learners and students returning to school after spending time in the workforce. Healthcare programs can move quickly, and it is easy to become overwhelmed by lectures, clinical requirements, assignments, examinations, and unfamiliar terminology. My tutoring approach is practical, conversational, patient, and supportive. I break complicated concepts into smaller pieces and frequently connect academic material to realistic healthcare situations.

Students do not need to arrive at a lesson already knowing exactly what they need help with. We can review the assignment instructions, identify the concepts that are causing difficulty, create a plan, and work through the material together.

Whether you are beginning a CNA or Medical Assistant program, working through EMT coursework, completing an LPN program, or taking introductory college courses, my goal is to help you understand the material, become a stronger academic writer, and develop skills you can continue using independently throughout your education and healthcare career.
