About Kara
I have been involved in music for my entire life. I was in choir and was taught basic theory for eleven years. Music became such a loved aspect of my life that I decided to study it after I graduated high school. I attended music school to study music therapy for one year and excelled in my classes. However, reflections on what I truly want to do with my career led me to choose another academic discipline. On the other hand, I adored learning about music theory at advanced levels and wanted to continue. I am currently continuing my theory education as an extracurricular. Music theory is often seen as an intimidating subject, but it doesn't have to be! My goal is to share my love for music and help students understand and enjoy it in a clear, approachable manner.

I break down music theory concepts in simple and understandable steps, using real music examples that range from classical to pop music. Sessions are interactive with plenty of discussion and repeated practice to make sure that concepts are absorbed with confidence!
We will start with a brief review, and focus on one key concept such as intervals, chord progressions, or analysis, work through examples together, and end with a recap and targeted practice goals.
I am both a tutor and a current music theory student, so I understand the challenges students can face. My recent successes in music theory I and II, and continuing theory education, have helped me learn to explain concepts in an approachable way.
Lessons are for beginner to advanced-beginning students, especially high school or AP Music Theory students who are looking to strengthen their skills, prepare for exams, or better understand how music works! :)
