About Olivia
As someone with ADHD and personal experience supporting family members with dyslexia, I understand both the challenges and breakthroughs that come with learning differently. That perspective allows me to approach each student with empathy, flexibility, and a deep respect for how every brain processes language in its own way. I’ve worked with students across a wide range of ages and skill levels, from emerging readers to advanced writers, and I tailor my teaching to match each learner’s pace and personality. Being in college helps me connect naturally with children and adolescents. I create an environment that feels approachable, motivating, and free of judgment. My goal is for every student to feel understood, supported, and capable of real progress!

My tutoring approach integrates evidence-based literacy instruction with individualized support to build reading fluency, writing clarity, and language confidence. Lessons are tailored for elementary through middle school school students, with particular focus on struggling readers, dyslexic learners, and students needing structured literacy reinforcement.
I believe language skills grow best through explicit instruction, consistent practice, and genuine engagement. Every student can thrive when teaching methods align with how their brain processes language. My role is to make reading and writing intuitive, not intimidating, and to help all students experience the joy of reading and writing!
My science-backed methods:
1. Structured Literacy
- My instruction is explicit, sequential, and cumulative — building from phonemic awareness to advanced comprehension. Each lesson integrates phonics, morphology, syntax, and vocabulary to strengthen both decoding and meaning-making.
2. Multisensory Learning (Orton–Gillingham Principles)
- Students engage multiple senses to reinforce language pathways: tracing words, using color cues for sounds, tapping out syllables, and verbalizing spelling patterns. These techniques have proven to be particularly effective for dyslexic and neurodivergent learners.
3. Reading Comprehension Strategies
- I teach active reading through evidence-based metacognitive methods: predicting, summarizing, questioning, and clarifying. Students learn to think about what they read, not just through it.
4. Writing Instruction
- Lessons combine sentence-level fluency work with paragraph and essay structure. We use modeling, guided writing, and scaffolded editing to build control, voice, and organization.
5. Confidence and Retention
- Progress is tracked through achievable goals, immediate feedback, and self-reflection to solidify learning and foster motivation.
