About Rosa
I'm currently working on my BS in Electrical Engineering which while doesn't have a direct correlation to English writing, has made it so that I understand even more about how writing is applied in the technical world. I have loved reading my whole life but have always had a harder time with writing as I didn't feel comfortable with a lot of the writing we had to do in school. In high school, I did pass both the AP English Language and the AP English Literature exams and have taken English classes focused on the tech industry while in college.
I have experience with neurodivergent students and being neurodivergent myself, I understand the difficulties that come from many traditional classroom settings and so I like to meet all of my students where they are and formulate lessons around their passions to help encourage them.

English is a tough language even for native speakers and especially when it comes to writing skills, a lot of students struggle. My goal is to help encourage their confidence in writing.
I want to begin lessons with free writing or prompt-based writing exercises. They may have time or word limits based on the student's skill, grade level, and tutoring intentions. This will allow students to get more comfortable with writing and will hopefully allow them to have creative expression even when focusing on non-creative writing skills.
After free writing, I would want to go over any problems that the student may be facing with reading and writing in class as well as going over any comments that may have been left by their teacher on graded writing.
We can then commence working on skills like grammar lessons, possibly more free writing, or more focused writing assignments. I want to encourage students to study and write about things they like while with me since writing about things you're actually interested in allows skills to shine through as well as provides confidence.
I have experience working with and communicating with neurodivergent students and want to encourage those students to succeed without actively working against them which tends to, unfortunately, happen in more traditional classroom settings. This may mean encouraging students to draw while we work or get up and have a mini dance party or even just only communicate through chat if they are feeling overwhelmed.

Much of the first lesson will be focused on us making sure we're a good match for each other in terms of tutoring as well as getting an idea of where struggles are. With the student (and parent/guardian in certain situations) I want to be able to sit down and make a plan about how to effectively move forward.
I am willing to do group tutoring with an additional charge per student, though not as much as for an additional tutoring session. I am hoping to charge each extra person about one-third to one-half of the price of a solo session though that is subject to change.
