About Christopher

I studied Philosophy as an undergraduate at St. Mary's College of Maryland, and went on to receive a Master's degree in Philosophy and Social Policy at The George Washington University. I also spent a year mentoring at-risk youth in Baltimore with Americorps, so I have general experience in working with young people of many ages and backgrounds. After earning my Master's degree, I was asked by a former Professor to return to St. Mary's College as an Adjunct Instructor, where I taught Introduction to Ethics, Introduction to Philosophy, and an upper-level course which I designed myself on the topic of economic justice. My courses were so popular among students that I was given the opportunity to teach as a salaried Visiting Instructor, which is quite rare for someone without a PhD. I now teach two courses at Stevenson University: Logic, and a fun and popular course called Philosophy and Film. Teaching is my passion, but working as an adjunct is not incredibly lucrative. I am excited for the opportunity to take on new students as a tutor in order to supplement my income and spread my love of wisdom.

I have taught Philosophy at the college level for the past five years, and am known for making complex material seem simple and interesting. My college courses are typically discussion-based, as I aim to help students see the relevance of Philosophy in their own lives. For the purposes of tutoring, I would engage students in a casual, conversational manner so that learning Philosophy feels natural and occurs the deepest level of understanding. While I focus intently on helping students grapple with often intimidating texts and concepts, I also provide students with the tools to argue effectively, discuss fundamental philosophical issues with confidence, and articulate their own philosophical views in both spoken and written forms. My skills will be most useful to students in High School or College who are taking introductory courses in Ethics, Logic, and other branches of Philosophy. I would also love to work with upper-level Philosophy majors who need help writing argumentative papers or understanding often dense philosophical writing.
