About Brady
"What do you know?" This is a question that's difficult to answer, but finding it is always expected of a student.
You may know more than you think, but you're not sure how to communicate it. One idea often leads to another and so on. Sometimes all it takes is the right person asking the right questions for your work to grow and flourish.
I work as both a tutor and a Substitute Teacher so I have experience in mostly the Elementary School level and Undergraduate level College.
If you leave my session feeling like you have a better understanding of your learning topic and how to communicate it to others to complete your task, I feel that I have done my job.

In my experience, people know more than they think. People have ideas, but they often have trouble putting them into words. So, I start by asking students about their ideas and responding to them so they have a deeper understanding of their ideas so they can begin to put them into writing.
As their work goes on, I ask them more questions to consider with their idea to teach them to be aware of the interests and curiosities of their audience. Chances are if one person is wondering something about a topic, others are as well.
Of course, I'm always open to answering questions my students have for me about their topic and their writing. In fact, I encourage students to ask questions and make comments. Tutoring needs that give and take to achieve the best possible result.
Oftentimes, I've had students who have completed work, or even a complete piece of work, who want to know how their writing sounds to a reader and what corrections should be made. So, I have them reread their work out loud so that they can hear how their writing sounds to a reader which is sometimes enough to make them recognize possible corrections on their own. I also ask questions and make comments on their writing based on my understanding and propose other revision ideas.
I am very much a conversationalist and analytic type of tutor. This is meant to ease a student into learning, while also encouraging them to explore all their ideas and to think critically about learning topics not just from their perspective, but from an outsider's perspective as well. Learning, no matter what form it takes, involves a thought process. So, having a tutor that can walk and guide students through a thought process can be invaluable to learning.
