About Julie
I am a recent graduate from North Carolina State University with majors in International Studies, Anthropology, and minors in Spanish and Nonprofit Studies. I have been tutoring my younger siblings my whole life, volunteered as a peer tutor in high school, and was approved as a student-athlete tutor in college. I am very comfortable dealing with children at any age and have a lot of patience for teaching. I believe learning a new language should be fun, and as someone who has spent years in language classrooms and then spent months speaking Spanish out in public, I know what is effective and useful. My accent is well-developed, which is something I'm proud of!

I approach Spanish instruction through a combination of writing, speaking, and listening practice. I find videos, charts, and visual aids to be helpful. I think it is important to encourage students when they do something well so that they enjoy lessons. Having students think through what they want to say and how they can get their message across with the vocabulary they have is more beneficial than learning flashcards all day. I am willing to teach whatever a parent thinks is appropriate and work hard to keep children at the benchmarks they need to hit in order to succeed again when school starts back. I have taken many different languages (Latin, Italian, Spanish, and French) in several different formats (in person, online, and blended) and I firmly believe that individual instruction is the way to go! Doing practice activities will never measure up to practicing having conversations.
