My Approach
My teaching approach involves discussion and imagery. Discussions are led by questions designed from the curriculum which allow me to gauge the students’ level of understanding. I build on this understanding using animated slide shows. Conversations (i.e. discussions) and images are easy for the student to recall in an exam situation. I avoid reams of text. My teaching style is therefore different, and an effective complement to, traditional teaching approaches. Every lesson, I dedicate time to exam preparation. This typically involves answering exam-style questions and honing the exam technique. My classes are flexible, non-formal (conversational) and student-led. The teaching materials are sent to the student and function as a study aid. These materials are customised to best suit the pace and abilities of student.

My Background
In 2011, I received a B.Sc. in Chemistry from the National University of Ireland (NUI), Galway. I ranked top of the class, and won gold medals, in my organic chemistry and research modules. In 2016, I earned a PhD in Chemistry from NUI Galway. Subsequently, I worked as a researcher in NUI Galway and the University of Leeds.

I have 7.5 years of teaching experience involving both one-on-one and group formats. I have delivered customised lessons, tutorials and lectures, mentored research projects and directed University laboratory practicals. I have completed a "Teaching and Learning" and several communication-based courses as part of my PhD.

Ciara tutored me in chemistry and biochemistry topics in my final year of BSc and during my MSc. Ciara has a deep understanding and strong grasp of science. She has the rare natural ability to explain theories in simple terms because of this. She is very approachable, patient and friendly so I never hesitated to approach her to ask questions or to re-explain something.
Myself and Ciara taught first year, University level chemistry labs in 2016/2017. This involved giving 15min pre-lab talks to the students then supervising them in the lab. Ciara gave the talks for the first semester and I gave them for the second semester.
