About Vern
I am currently a PhD student in Classics at UCLA and have a BA in Classics and a BS in Anthropology from Loyola University Chicago. I completed graduate work at Columbia University in the Classics department in 2025. My area of specialty is in disability and embodiment in Ancient Tragedy, specifically Sophocles and Seneca. I tailor my tutoring sessions to each students needs, building a strong foundation in grammar, syntax, and reading comprehension. I am happy to use any Latin grammar book or reading materials the student is assigned in class, and I often am able to help make homework and readings accessible to struggling students. I have made various helpful guides with grammar, explaining various rules of the language as thoroughly as possible. A typical lesson is suited for students who are at a beginning-intermediate level, especially for students who are just starting to read and would like to review their grammar and syntax in real time.
