About Karen
I am a classically trained violinist who developed my skills through many years of study at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music, a highly selective institution known for its rigorous training. I have placed in multiple competitive NYC violin competitions, demonstrating both technical mastery and artistic expression. My performance experience is diverse: I have played in the pit orchestras for NYC productions, performed as a soloist, and collaborated extensively in chamber music ensembles. This variety has given me deep insight into different musical settings and styles. As a teacher, I don’t just focus on notes and technique—I also guide students through the “invisible” lessons of music: breathing, taking cues, and the subtle, unspoken communication that makes performances truly come alive. These skills are essential for any musician aiming to perform with confidence, sensitivity, and connection. With my comprehensive training, real-world performance experience, and passion for education, I am committed to helping students unlock their full musical potential.

Hi! My name is Karen. I’m an award-winning violinist based in NYC, with performance experience at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. I trained for many years at the selective Manhattan School of Music.
I started playing the violin when I was five years old, and it’s been my constant companion ever since. Over the years, it has become more than just an instrument—it’s my voice, my creative outlet, and my way of connecting with the world.
I love teaching and am deeply passionate about music education. I believe every student deserves a teacher who listens, adapts, and inspires. I love teaching and am deeply passionate about music education. I wear hearing aids, so I understand what it’s like to navigate learning with differences—and I bring that empathy into my teaching. I work especially well with neurodivergent students or those with attention-related challenges, creating a supportive, judgment-free environment where every student can thrive.
Whether you’re just beginning or preparing for auditions, I tailor each lesson to your individual goals and learning style.
My lessons (1 to 1.5 hours) focus on scales, etudes to build technique, and repertoire that speaks to your interests. I also integrate structured practice plans, warm-up routines, and posture-focused exercises rooted in my background in physiology and the biomechanics of violin playing. I can help you play more comfortably, efficiently, and safely.
Violin can be incredibly fun—but it’s also a discipline. I get that, and I’m here to guide you through the ups and downs with patience, encouragement, and tools that really work. For younger students, I incorporate playful techniques like sticker charts to make learning joyful.
Together, we’ll build a strong foundation so you can use the violin not just to play music—but as a tool for creativity, self-expression, and advocacy. I also offer support with managing performance anxiety, developing resilience, and preparing for orchestra or conservatory auditions. Looking forward to becoming your violin instructor and mentor!
