Only as Beginner learner, I found Nene through the Bristol pianolessonsuk website. Nene was very welcoming, making me feel at ease straight away and dissipating any anxiety. I can feel his enthusiasm, motivation but also his wide experience in teaching. He is very patient, anticipating our steps in learning and thus giving us hope and confidence regarding on being on the right path. Time flies in each lesson leaving room for motivation to carry on practicing at home between the lessons. I can sense that Nene really knows about the learning process and does guide us in the best way.

Nene was recommended to me by a musician friend, when I decided to learn how to play the congas. Was I lucky! Nene is from Cartagena, Colombia, a place where music and percussion are huge. His music taste (and knowledge of conga rhythms) ranges from standard salsa (of which he knows numerous variations) to specialised Colombian sounds (vallenato, cumbia) and Cuban genres (guaguanco, mozambique). What I love about him is that he proactively proposes to teach sounds that the average non South American is generally not familiar with. This has massively expanded my horizons and skills, something that I would have never achieved with someone who would tend to focus more on standard patterns. Just show interest and he'll get excited and then he'll get you even more excited! He's extremely patient, gives you time and space to make mistakes and improve, has a great sense of humour and a sheer love for what he does. In terms of class structure, we tend to jam and/or practice rhytms, patterns, variations, and combinations of. We don't do theory, but the truth is that I don't want to do theory. That said, I wouldn't be suprised if he adjusted well to each individual student's needs, so don't hesitate to contact him regardless of your class structure preference. I have known Nene for over 10 years. Not only he is an amazing and friendly piano teacher with years of experience in music and stage performances (e.g. with Indira Roman, Aji pa Ti and other famous Latin bands), but he is also such a versatile natural musician and a great percussionist. He has designed a learning programme tailored to my needs. I have always wanted to learn the Montuno piano patterns which I am really enjoying.
I will definitely recommend Nene.
