About Clarissa
I have 17 years of teaching experience. I have worked in schools in England between 2002 and 2019, holding a variety of posts from class teacher to more senior positions such as SENCO and Inclusion Manager. I have extensive experience in identifying and closing the gap with children who are struggling with their learning. I have worked with children who have dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, visual and hearing impairments.

Each lesson will focus on identified targets that will help your child to make progress. These will be initially set through discussion with parents (and child if they would like to), and an assessment during the first lesson. For my lessons, I mainly use zoom and bitpaper to teach and share resources but can use other tech such as Skype etc. During my online lessons, I use a variety of resources to ensure that the child is engaged and actively learning. I can easily adapt lesson structure to meet the child's needs e.g. screen colour/font for those with specific learning needs such as dyslexia. Over many years of teaching, some of my preferred methods are using a multi-sensory approach to teaching to ensure that all learning styles are catered for. I also like to encourage children to try a few different methods when learning and begin to decide which ones help them to learn best. I believe that when a child understands how to learn, they can make the most progress.

Clarissa has vast experience both in teaching and as a Special Needs coordinator. She has helped a wide range of special needs children and has the bucket loads of patience needed to help them. Also she gets a real buzz from seeing a nervous, inward looking child grow in confidence as they learn all the coping strategies and to become one of the brighter kids in class.
My daughter has always found reading challenging but in year 3 it just got worse. It affected her behaviour and her self esteem plummeted. She was diagnosed with dyslexia and we decided to get her some tuition. Right from the start, she was happy and remained focused due to Clarissa keeping the lessons engaging and interesting. The free assessment helped plan the first sessions and build her self esteem. She is now choosing to practise spelling and reading strategies without prompting. This is such a change after years of upset about doing school work. Clarissa has taught her a range of strategies that help with her dyslexia as well as helping her progress in reading. My daughter has stopped saying she is stupid and is happier doing her homework. She has returned to school a more confident girl and we plan on using Star Bees Tutoring for the foreseeable future. Thank you Clarissa
Clarissa has proven herself time and time again to be an expert at assessing children's reading (and writing) level, and devising personalised methods to improve their knowledge and confidence. She is friendly, approachable and very good at engaging the child, following their lead/interests in order to develop them one step further. Her approach led my child to believe she was just having fun whilst learning phonics. The online format worked very well for us, the novelty kept my child engaged and it meant we could do short daily sessions which was my preference. It also meant I could watch and learn myself (as an adult who does not know phonics or how best to teach reading, this was great!) and keep records of progress and content easily. I would have no hesitation using StarBees Tutoring service again or recommending them to friends or family.
