About Matis
I'm rated 2300 on Chess.com in rapid and blitz, and chess has been a long-standing passion of mine. I've taught chess in a workshop setting as well as to private students, and I also taught anatomy and physiology during my physiotherapy studies — so teaching, in different forms, has always been part of my life.
I'm a recently qualified physiotherapist, and my background has taught me how to adapt to different people, explain things simply, and stay calm and focused under pressure — skills that translate directly into teaching chess.

Chess lessons for all ages and levels, from complete beginners learning the rules to intermediate and advanced players looking to sharpen their strategy and tactics. Lessons cover the fundamentals — piece coordination, opening principles, tactical patterns — as well as more advanced concepts like positional play, endgame technique, and game analysis, depending on your level and goals.
My approach is built around patience and clear, step-by-step explanations. I break down complex ideas into simple, practical concepts, and adapt each lesson to how you think and learn best. Whether you want to play for fun, get more competitive, or help your child develop focus and critical thinking, lessons are tailored to what you're aiming for.

Matis is the best chess teacher ever! He’s so patient, kind, and teaches amazingly well. He’s also super friendly and made me feel like I was talking with an old friend of mine! If you want to learn chess, he’s your best option for sure!
Matis is a great teacher. He knows how to explain complex things in a way that they end up sounding easy. He was able to help me in French, as he also won competitions of French spelling in Belgium.
