About Laurie
I developed an early fascination with how substances interact and transform, which led me to pursue a Master’s in Chemistry. Over 8 years of teaching, I have worked with students of all ages and skill levels, guiding them to understand chemical concepts clearly and practically. My approach emphasises patience, structured explanations, and making abstract ideas relatable to everyday experiences.
I create a supportive environment where learners feel comfortable asking questions, performing exercises, and exploring experimental ideas. Lessons incorporate diagrams, demonstrations, and practical examples to enhance understanding and engagement. I focus on helping students build both conceptual clarity and problem-solving confidence.
Beyond the classroom, I stay engaged with current research, innovations, and teaching strategies to keep lessons relevant and stimulating. Watching students grow from confusion to mastery, develop analytical reasoning, and become self-confident in their learning is deeply rewarding. My ultimate goal is to instil curiosity, logical thinking, and a lasting interest in exploring the fascinating world of chemistry.

Chemistry becomes accessible and enjoyable when students can relate chemical principles to real-life scenarios. In my lessons, I focus on foundational concepts such as atomic structures, chemical bonding, stoichiometry, acids and bases, reaction mechanisms, and basic lab safety practices. I aim to create a learning environment where abstract ideas become tangible through examples, visual aids, and practical exercises. By integrating theory and hands-on experiences, learners can build strong conceptual clarity while maintaining curiosity about the molecular world.
Lessons are adapted to each student’s level. Beginners start with simple atomic models, periodic trends, and basic chemical reactions with guided exercises. Intermediate learners explore reaction balancing, chemical equations, and laboratory experiments with analytical thinking. Advanced students focus on organic chemistry, reaction mechanisms, and preparation for exams or practical evaluations. Each session combines stepwise explanations, problem-solving, and interactive discussion to reinforce learning and build confidence.
Chemistry lessons are not just about memorising formulas; they teach logical reasoning, observation, and analytical skills. Students develop the ability to predict outcomes, interpret experimental data, and apply principles to solve problems. My goal is to cultivate both competence and curiosity in learners, ensuring they gain understanding and confidence to explore the subject independently and with enthusiasm.
