About Valerie
My fascination with chemistry began early, sparked by curiosity about how substances interact, transform, and shape the world around us. This passion led me to pursue a B.Sc in Chemistry followed by an M.Sc in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, where I explored molecular interactions, reaction mechanisms, and practical applications in drug formulation and biological systems. Over 9 years of teaching, I have worked with learners across all levels, helping them build confidence and clarity in understanding complex topics.
I emphasize teaching that blends theory with application, using demonstrations, problem-solving exercises, and real-world examples to make concepts approachable. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s learning style, ensuring they feel supported and motivated to explore challenging ideas. I encourage curiosity, questioning, and independent thinking to cultivate deeper understanding rather than rote memorization.
Outside the classroom, I remain engaged with chemical research, laboratory experimentation, and applied studies in pharmaceutical and industrial chemistry. This engagement allows me to integrate contemporary relevance into lessons, inspiring students to see chemistry as a dynamic, practical discipline. Teaching chemistry is rewarding because I witness learners gain both competence and confidence. Helping students achieve their academic goals while nurturing curiosity and analytical thinking is the most fulfilling aspect of my work.

Chemistry can seem daunting when learners are expected to memorize reactions without understanding the underlying logic. In my lessons, I focus on connecting principles to practical applications, helping students grasp atomic structures, molecular interactions, stoichiometry, kinetics, thermodynamics, acids and bases, and chemical equilibrium. By linking theory to real-world contexts, learners develop confidence and curiosity, seeing chemistry as an understandable, fascinating subject rather than an abstract set of rules. Lessons are structured to progress from foundational understanding to complex problem-solving while encouraging active questioning and conceptual exploration.
For beginners, I focus on basic chemical concepts, understanding atoms and molecules, simple reactions, and introduction to laboratory practices, ensuring a solid grasp of fundamentals. Intermediate learners work through stoichiometry, solution chemistry, buffer systems, and stepwise problem-solving exercises that strengthen reasoning skills. Advanced learners explore reaction mechanisms, kinetics, molecular modeling, and analytical techniques to deepen conceptual understanding and exam readiness. Each lesson blends explanation, practice, discussion, and reflection, fostering mastery and confidence.
Beyond academics, chemistry lessons develop analytical thinking, patience, and meticulous problem-solving skills. Students learn to approach challenges methodically and creatively, gaining confidence in their ability to predict and analyze chemical outcomes. Many discover joy in understanding molecular behavior and practical chemical phenomena. My goal is to cultivate both knowledge and curiosity, empowering students to excel academically while nurturing a lifelong interest in chemistry.
