About LJ
Hi! I'm LJ. I am based in Philadelphia and currently work as a High Impact Math Tutor, delivering high-quality Algebra 1 tutoring using evidence-based methods. I graduated with a BSc Honors degree in Chemistry, specializing in Environmental and Sustainable Chemistry at University College Dublin, Ireland. After conducting research projects in materials science and spending several years working on the cutting edge of green energy technology, I decided to pursue a career in teaching, as I enjoy helping children and young people learn about the world around them and grow into confident capable scholars! I have worked during the past summer as a teaching assistant for grades 3-4 providing support for students who needed help in math, reading and ELA subjects. I also delivered STEM-focused lessons to grades 1-6 teaching engineering principles, ecology and SEL skills.

Hi! I'm LJ. I am based in Philadelphia and currently work as a High Impact Math Tutor, delivering high-quality Algebra 1 tutoring to students of all levels, using evidence-based methods. In my sessions, the student voice is prioritized, meaning I encourage the student to become a fully engaged scholar. This means I help the student work out problems and explain their thinking and methods to gain full conceptual understanding and mastery of the subject. Depending on the student's needs, I may teach some of the content, demonstrate a problem, we may work through some problems together then some independent work to build your skills, assist memorization and assess your learning. I also try to spend a few minutes each lesson on goal setting and discussing academic challenges and how we can begin to overcome them. What sets me apart? I am passionate about fostering a growth mindset and giving my students confidence in their abilities. I don't just teach the material, but will teach you the study methods and approach necessary to succeed throughout your educational journey. You will find a positive and supportive learning environment in my sessions. I can help with setting goals, Homework Help, study skills, test-taking skills, managing test anxiety and more.
