• 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  My interest in chemical engineering began during school trips to industrial parks and oil refineries. Seeing large‑scale processes in action sparked my curiosity about how raw materials are transformed into everyday products. My interest in private tutoring developed later, once I started working and deepening my understanding of chemical engineering and the wider industry. I realised that many complex concepts become surprisingly simple when explained through everyday examples and analogies. That discovery made me enjoy breaking topics down for others, and it naturally led me into tutoring.

• 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I teach Maths, and my favourite areas to cover are Geometry, Kinetics, and Algebra. Geometry appeals to me because it’s very visual and relies more on logical calculation than long explanations. Students often gain confidence quickly when they can see it working. Kinetics is another favourite because it’s rooted in logic and real world behaviour. There are so many everyday examples like motion, speed, reaction times which help students understand ideas in a practical way. Algebra has always come naturally to me due to my engineering background. I enjoy showing students how algebra underpins so many other areas of maths and science, and how powerful it becomes once they master the basics.

• 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  One of my biggest inspirations was my high school physics teacher, Mr Fayaz, who had a brilliant way of mixing humour with very simple, real‑life examples. His humour made students relax and pay attention, and his everyday demonstrations made even abstract concepts feel obvious. I still remember one lesson where he stood in the path of sunlight coming through the classroom window and used his own shadow to explain how shadows form because light travels in straight lines. It was such a simple demonstration, but it made the concept instantly clear. That moment and his whole teaching style has stayed with me and strongly influences how I teach today. I try to use the same blend of clarity, relatability, and light‑heartedness to help students understand and enjoy learning.

• 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  Teach clear concepts with real examples from day to day activities such as driving, walking, cooking, running etc. Examples from a common household like kitchen, living room will teach students a lot more than a laboratory or industry which they might have never seen. You need to teach concepts, provide practice questions and add a bit of humor to make learning interesting and exciting.

• 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

• 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  One of the biggest challenges I faced as a student was the gap between the questions we practised in class and the questions that appeared in the actual exams. They often felt like two completely different worlds, and it created unnecessary stress. It’s something I still feel is unfair to students today. Because of that experience, I now make a conscious effort to teach in a way that bridges this gap. I focus on building strong conceptual understanding and then reinforce it with a wide range of practice resources. Most importantly, I prioritise past paper questions, because they give students a realistic sense of exam style, structure, and difficulty. My goal is to make sure students walk into their exams feeling prepared, not surprised.

• 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  My core passion is engineering — understanding how things work, how processes fit together, and how scientific principles shape the world around us. Alongside that, I’ve developed a strong passion for teaching, especially when it comes to Chemistry and Physics. I genuinely enjoy breaking down complex ideas and explaining them in a way that feels simple and intuitive. There’s something very rewarding about seeing a student’s confidence grow once a concept finally “clicks,” and that’s a feeling that keeps me motivated as both an engineer and a tutor.

• 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

  I guess just being myself and giving everything I can to teach my students what I know. My goal is always the same, to see my students achieve more than I ever did...
