About Pavi

Hi, I'm Pavel. I'm a native Russian speaker with a Master's degree and years of experience teaching both online and in schools and universities. I've also worked as an interpreter, so I understand the language from multiple angles. In my lessons, I take a communicative approach, using popular textbooks by Russian and international authors, and I also create my own materials to make sure the learning experience is personalized and engaging. I’d love to work with you! Feel free to book a free trial lesson where we can chat more about my teaching style, discuss your goals, and create a personalized learning plan. Looking forward to it!

If your main goal is to improve your conversational Russian—whether it’s to communicate with your partner, family, or for work—you’re in the right place! My lessons focus on developing speaking skills, ensuring you get plenty of practice with the grammar and vocabulary used in real-life conversations, both formal and informal.

Many students are surprised to find that Russian can actually be more structured and straightforward than English. Trust your instincts, and you’ll soon discover that speaking Russian isn’t as hard as it seems.

For beginners, the Russian alphabet is often seen as a challenge, but it’s actually one of the easiest parts to learn! Most people can start reading Russian text within just a few hours—it's that simple.

Another great advantage of Russian is its flexible word order, unlike English’s strict sentence structure. This gives you more freedom and makes speaking Russian feel more natural.

Russian may seem daunting at first, but I’ve seen many students succeed and thrive in mastering the language. With the right guidance and practice, you’ll be speaking Russian confidently in no time!

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I speak Russian fluently primarily because it is my native language. Growing up in Russia, I was immersed in the language and culture from an early age. However, my journey as a language teacher has been significantly influenced by inspiring educators along the way. They sparked my passion for teaching and helped me appreciate the beauty of languages beyond my own.
  • Can you name a living, historical, or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

One emblematic figure of Russian culture is Anton Chekhov. As a playwright and short story writer, his works capture the complexities of human nature and societal issues in Russia. Chekhov's ability to convey deep emotions through simple yet profound narratives resonates with learners and provides rich material for discussion in my classes.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition, or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

I particularly love the Russian phrase "Тише едешь - дальше будешь," which translates to "The slower you go, the further you'll get." This saying reflects a cultural value of patience and thoughtfulness, which I find resonates well with language learning. It reminds us that taking our time can lead to deeper understanding and mastery.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Speaking Russian is not just about communication; it connects me to my heritage and allows me to share my culture with others. As a teacher, it's fulfilling to see students develop an appreciation for Russian literature, history, and traditions. It's important for me to pass on this knowledge and help bridge cultural gaps through language.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

One of the main difficulties in learning Russian is mastering its grammar, particularly cases and verb aspects. To help overcome these challenges, I recommend immersive practices-like speaking with native speakers or consuming media in Russian. Engaging with real-life contexts can make complex grammatical concepts more relatable and easier to grasp.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

I remember a particularly challenging moment during my German studies in college when I had to give a presentation in front of the class. I was nervous but determined to succeed. As I spoke, I stumbled over some words but kept going. My professor praised my effort afterward, highlighting that perseverance is key in language learning. That experience taught me not only about resilience but also about creating a supportive environment for my own students.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

Living in Thailand significantly enhanced my understanding of Thai while also deepening my appreciation for cultural immersion. The experience taught me how vital it is to practice speaking with locals. This realization has influenced how I teach Russian; I encourage students to seek out conversation opportunities and engage with native speakers whenever possible.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

My extensive experience-over 12 years-as well as my ongoing passion for learning languages makes me a Superprof. I understand firsthand the challenges learners face because I'm actively learning Spanish myself. My approach combines effective teaching methods with empathy and adaptability, ensuring that each student feels supported on their unique journey toward fluency.
