About Kathy

I am a dedicated educator with over 16 years of classroom teaching experience, a Master's degree in Education, and I am currently a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership. Throughout my career, I have specialized in early childhood and elementary education, helping young learners build strong foundations in literacy, reading, writing, and mathematics.

My teaching philosophy is centered around creating a supportive, engaging, and student-centered environment. I believe that every child has unique strengths and learning styles, which is why I tailor my lessons to spark curiosity, build confidence, and foster a lifelong love for learning. Whether working with students who need extra support to catch up or those seeking enrichment, I break down complex concepts into manageable, interactive steps.

As a tutor, my goal is to empower elementary and middle school students to achieve academic success while building critical thinking skills and self-confidence that extend far beyond the classroom.

Teaching Method & Approach
As a certified teacher with over 11 years of classroom experience and a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership, my teaching approach is grounded in evidence-based, student-centered learning. I believe every child learns differently, so I tailor each session to meet your child’s unique needs, interests, and learning style—making core skills both accessible and engaging.
Who the Lessons Are For:
These personalized sessions are specially designed for elementary and middle school students from Kindergarten through 8th grade. They are ideal for students mastering foundational early literacy, phonics, reading comprehension, and writing, as well as those building strong math fundamentals, problem-solving confidence, and pre-algebra concepts. Whether your child needs targeted intervention, subject mastery, or an academic confidence boost, lessons are tailored to their level.

A Typical 45 to 60 Minute Lesson Plan:

Warm-Up & Mindset (5 mins): A quick activity or concept review to activate prior knowledge and get focused.

Targeted Direct Instruction (10-15 mins): Explicitly introducing new reading or math concepts using clear models and interactive techniques.

Guided Practice & Feedback (15 mins): Hands-on problem solving, text analysis, or passage reading with real-time coaching and encouragement.

Independent Application (10 mins): Practice exercises or challenge problems to solidify mastery.

Session Wrap-Up & Goal Check (5 mins): Quick review of key takeaways and positive reinforcement.

What Sets Me Apart:
My Master’s in Education and doctoral studies in Educational Leadership ensure top-tier, research-backed instruction. Lessons are student-centered, interactive, and adapted to each learner's pace to turn complex topics into clear, manageable steps. I build a supportive environment where students feel empowered to tackle tough problems and celebrate their academic progress.
