About Shannon
Hi! I’m a certified middle and high school teacher with 10 years of classroom experience, an MBA, and a Master’s in Political Science. I’m certified in all Social Sciences and English/Language Arts (grades 6–12) and currently work in the tech industry—so I love bringing real-world skills into learning.
I’m also a mom of five young adults, dog-mom to two pups, and based in the Denver area. When I’m not tutoring, you’ll find me chasing outdoor adventures—snow skiing, water skiing, hiking, tennis, and even learning how to skateboard (wish me luck!). I believe learning should be motivating, practical, and even fun—and I bring that energy into every session.

My Tutoring Approach
My tutoring style is structured, supportive, and results-driven. I focus on helping students truly understand concepts—not just memorize them—so they can apply what they learn with confidence in class, on exams, and in real life.
I use clear explanations, real-world examples, and step-by-step modeling to make challenging topics feel manageable. For economics and personal finance, I connect lessons to everyday decisions students already care about—money, jobs, college, and future planning—so the material becomes meaningful and practical.
Each session is customized to the student, but generally follows this flow:
1. **Quick check-in** – Review recent assignments, grades, and any trouble areas
2. **Targeted instruction** – Teach or reteach specific concepts using guided examples
3. **Skill practice** – Work through problems, writing prompts, or study strategies together
4. **Feedback & refinement** – Correct errors, strengthen responses, and build confidence
5. **Action plan** – Set clear goals for the next session
For writing and ELA, lessons include structured support for brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising, and editing—so students learn the full writing process, not just the final answer.
