About Steve
I have been involved in music since taking clarinet and organ when I was in elementary school. This included playing bass clarinet in the Moreland School District Honor Band.
Upon graduation from eighth grade, my parents got me a guitar and guitar lessons. I played in rock bands in high school and have studied jazz, country, classical, and flamenco guitar.
I have a Master's Degree in Fine Arts/Music from San Jose State University, where I studied classical guitar, theory, composition, conducting, and voice. I studied with Lou Harrison and Allen Strange, who were two internationally respected composers.
At West Valley College in Saratoga, CA, I taught Music Appreciation, Music Fundamentals, and Jazz and Pop Voice.
I orchestrated the music for my own Las Vegas show and recorded "the Legacy of a King", which was an early karaoke product featuring 24 Elvis Presley songs, and it was distributed throughout the U.S. and Canada. This was recorded on 8 track and 16 track analog tape.
When working with the band Gi, I was requested to move to learn Pro Tools, so I went through the full course of study of recording at Foothill College under Bruce Tambling and Mark Anderson.
I recorded accompanying tracks to coordinate with live musicians for the Gray Diamond Show, a Neil Diamond tribute show where I am the featured performer.
I continue to perform as a singer and continue to record using Pro Tools and LUNA with a Universal Audio Apollo 16 coordinated with an Audient ASP008.

Let me help simplify your set up of Pro Tools and recording with a step-by-step approach. You will learn a series of short-cuts that will speed up your sessions.
Learn the ins and outs of plug-ins, elastic audio, tempo mapping, automation, virtual instruments, grouping, fading and cross-fading, importing media, coordinating with video, and more.
Let me help you set up your DAW with your recording interface and get started actually recording audio.
I am also something of an authority regarding microphones. Today, there are many less expensive equivalents for the classic mics that can cost more than $10,000.
I am actually the first person to have passed the exam for a Music Production Certified Pro Tools Operator after completing the course work at Foothill College. I have continued to record with Pro Tools, and more recently, with Universal Audio LUNA for more than 10 years.
My emphasis is on practical application. You will find that I am very patient and kind. If there is an issue that I can't answer personally, I will direct you to resources that can quickly help you resolve it.
I can also give you tips on orchestration, setting up a rhythm session, coordinating with external controllers, and more.
I am also familiar with Finale (for music manuscript) and Final Cut Pro (for video editing).
