About Lisa
I have over 30 years experience in adult and adolescent education. After getting my BA from Brigham Young University, I spent 18 months living in Argentina, where I learned to speak Spanish fluently. I was a trainer for FranklinCovey for 13 years, then owned my own business, training and coaching small business owners. In 2017, I moved to the DR Congo and worked with a start-up language school, where I learned French, managed a team of teachers and learned how to teach English. Now I am an ESL teacher and tutor for international students from around the world. In my life, I have trained over 45,000 people, and can't wait to work with you!

I get to know my students, their goals, and their learning styles and preferences so that they can have the best learning experience possible. I teach adolescents and adults at any level. In our first session together we will do some assessments to determine your level in the language, and we will discuss your goals and how you will measure progress and success. In the following sessions, we may work out of a textbook and will use other resources as well. I ask my students to do homework because learning a language cannot be done once or twice a week – it must be done every day! I believe that mistakes are a natural part of learning, and celebrate both small and big achievements with my students. Confidence is a huge part of learning, a language! My students choose the pace at which they want to learn. I emphasize participation, practice and application. I do not use lecture as a tutoring technique--EVER! Having lived in 3 countries and taught people from many different countries around the world, I am sensitive to both social and educational differences. I take the time to learn about the native countries and languages of my ESL students so that I can connect what they know to what they are learning.
