About Claudia
With over 20 years of teaching experience, I am a passionate and dedicated English educator committed to helping students reach their full academic potential. I hold a degree in English Literature and Broadcast Journalism from the University of Miami and am a certified educator with extensive experience teaching middle school, high school, and Advanced Placement English Language and Composition.
As an AP English Language teacher and AP Reader, I bring a deep understanding of academic writing, rhetorical analysis, critical reading, and the skills students need to succeed in challenging courses and standardized assessments. My experience in the classroom allows me to identify students' strengths, address areas for growth, and provide meaningful, individualized instruction.
I believe that great tutoring goes beyond improving grades. It is about building confidence, developing independent thinkers, and helping students discover their potential as readers and writers. My approach to tutoring is personalized, engaging, and focused on building both skills and confidence. As an experienced high school English teacher, AP English Language and Composition instructor, and AP Reader, I understand the academic demands students face and know how to help them become stronger, more independent readers and writers.
I believe every student can grow as a writer when given the right guidance, meaningful feedback, and opportunities to practice. My teaching style combines clear explanations, modeling, guided practice, and individualized feedback. Rather than simply correcting mistakes, I help students understand why certain strategies work so they can apply those skills independently.
A typical lesson begins by identifying the student's goals and reviewing areas of difficulty. We then work through targeted instruction, analyzing examples, practicing specific skills, and applying strategies to the student's own work. Each session concludes with a review of progress, constructive feedback, and clear next steps.
What sets me apart is my ability to make challenging concepts approachable while maintaining high academic expectations. My experience teaching AP-level students and scoring AP essays allows me to provide specific, actionable feedback that helps students understand how to strengthen their writing and meet academic standards. I strive to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking risks, and developing their unique voices.
I work with middle school, high school, and college students seeking support in English language arts, reading comprehension, literary analysis, academic writing, grammar, and essay development. I also specialize in AP English Language and Composition preparation, rhetorical analysis, argument writing, synthesis essays, and college application essays.
