About Wendy
Hi future student! My name is Wendy Hanae and I have been teaching English and French since 2013. I've has taught in France, Switzerland, Thailand, and in Oakland.
I currently teach English (ESL) and French at two adult schools in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I'm super passionate about making language learning accessible for all, intercultural competence in education and social justice.
I love traveling, which is why I completed my BA and MA abroad in Europe and I love connecting with people who are from different places. Having been a language learner myself. I try hard to make sure my lessons speak to my students' interests and personal goals.

As a tutor, my approach is centered around simplicity, student engagement, and fostering conversation. I believe in creating an environment where learners feel comfortable and empowered to participate actively in their learning journey.

My teaching style is student-centered, meaning I adapt my approach based on each learner's needs, preferences, and learning style.
A typical lesson plan with me would start with a warm-up activity to get the learners engaged and ready to learn. This might involve a short discussion on a relevant topic or a fun icebreaker game. Next, we would dive into a discussion question related to the lesson topic, allowing learners to express their opinions and thoughts while practicing their language skills.
After the warm-up, I would introduce the main topic or grammar point of the lesson, using clear explanations and visual aids if necessary. Then, we would move on to practice activities using relevant materials such as worksheets, articles, videos, or interactive online exercises. These activities are designed to reinforce learning and provide opportunities for learners to apply their new knowledge in context.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my background as a language learner myself, growing up in an ESL family, and spending over a decade living abroad. I understand firsthand the challenges and joys of learning a new language and can empathize with my students' experiences. My multicultural background also allows me to bring a unique perspective to language learning and teaching, incorporating elements of different cultures into my lessons.
While my lessons are suitable for anyone, I have extensive experience teaching adults. However, I am flexible and can adapt my teaching approach to accommodate learners of all ages and proficiency levels.
