About Jo
Hi, I’m Jo Katsani — a passionate and experienced German teacher with a background in German philology and literature. Originally from Greece and born in Germany, I’m a native speaker of both German and Greek, and also fluent in English. I’ve been teaching for over 16 years in both public and private schools, as well as offering private lessons in person and online. Throughout my career, I’ve had the joy of working with students aged 4 to 74, across all levels — from complete beginners to advanced learners. I also prepare students for official certification exams and serve as an examiner for Greece’s state language proficiency tests. What truly drives me is my love for teaching and my students. I tailor every lesson to the individual, making sure it suits your personality, goals, and learning style. Whether you're learning for school, work, travel, or just for the joy of it, my goal is to make the process enjoyable, effective, and something you look forward to. With me, you’ll not only learn to speak German correctly — you'll gain the confidence to use it with ease and joy.

My Teaching Approach and How I Share Knowledge As a teacher, my approach is centered around the belief that language learning should be both effective and enjoyable. I create a safe, encouraging space where students feel comfortable to express themselves and not afraid to make mistakes — because that’s exactly how learning happens. Teaching Method & Techniques I use a communicative and student-centered method, which means lessons are tailored to your interests, learning style, and goals. I emphasize real-life conversation, pronunciation, and correct sentence structure, while integrating grammar and vocabulary naturally into our discussions. Visual aids, interactive tools, and engaging materials (videos, articles, games) are also part of the mix. Typical Lesson Plan Every lesson is unique, but a typical session might look like this: A brief warm-up or casual chat in German Review of previous material or homework Introduction of a new concept or theme (grammar, vocabulary, or cultural topic) Practice through conversation, reading, listening, exercises Correction and feedback in real-time A small recap and optional homework, depending on your schedule What Sets Me Apart I bring over 16 years of teaching experience in both public and private schools, as well as in-person and online tutoring. I’m also a certified examiner for the Greek state language proficiency exams. Having lived in Germany and being bilingual in German and Greek — and fluent in English — I truly understand the language learning journey.
