About Finley
With 15 years' of drumming and a Master’s in Percussion Performance, I bring technical depth, musical insight, and real-world experience into my teaching. I’ve performed with orchestras, jazz ensembles, touring bands, percussion ensembles, and contemporary music groups, giving me a strong foundation in both traditional and modern drumming. My lessons emphasise core fundamentals such as timing, technique, dynamic control, posture, and musical interpretation. I work with students of all ages and ability levels, designing personalised lessons that match each learner’s goals. I believe in a methodical approach that also leaves space for creativity, exploration, and fun. Students receive structured practice plans designed to help them make steady, measurable progress.
I incorporate written exercises, ear-training, groove building, improvisation, and song-based learning into every programme. My teaching environment is supportive, positive, and encouraging, allowing students to grow confidently without pressure or judgement. I emphasise the importance of rhythm awareness, listening, and musical communication. I enjoy helping students strengthen their coordination, independence, and expressive playing. Drumming is more than a skill—it’s a form of emotional expression and connection. Watching students gain confidence and develop their own musical identity is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my work. I’m passionate about guiding each drummer towards their full potential and helping them grow both technically and artistically.

My drum lessons are designed to prepare students for real-world performances while building technical skill and musicality. Each lesson is tailored to individual goals, whether mastering foundational rhythms, refining technique, or preparing for live shows, studio sessions, or auditions. Lessons focus on timing, stick control, hand independence, coordination, groove, dynamic control, rhythm reading, and expressive phrasing. I integrate song practice, play-alongs, improvisation, and ensemble exercises to provide practical and performance-focused learning. Students receive guidance on practice routines, goal setting, and progress tracking to ensure steady improvement. My teaching environment is supportive, professional, and motivating, encouraging learners to explore creativity while maintaining discipline.
Lessons emphasise listening skills, musical awareness, and collaboration with other musicians. Students develop independence, technical precision, and the ability to adapt to various musical contexts. I celebrate progress and milestones to maintain motivation and reinforce growth. Each session balances structured learning with creative exploration. Drumming is treated as both a skill and a means of artistic expression. Students build confidence, versatility, and stage presence. Lessons also cultivate focus, problem-solving, and musical interpretation. Each session is designed to be productive, engaging, and rewarding. Students leave with new skills, inspiration, and readiness for any musical setting. My goal is to guide students towards becoming confident, expressive, and performance-ready drummers.
