About Joan
Sketching is often more important than the final software rendering in the early conceptual stages of a project. Mastering spatial planning, architectural history, and hand sketching allows you to communicate ideas long before opening AutoCAD. My MSc from MIT taught me that engineering foundations often trip up students who lack a solid grasp of physical constraints.
I bring 12 years of experience to help beginners, hobbyists, and portfolio applicants navigate the complexities of design critique. Sustainable design and presentation board creation are not just technical tasks but exercises in storytelling.
I balance the rigor of an engineering education with the warmth required to guide creative growth. You will find that my approach to architectural drawing remains grounded in logic and structural integrity. Results come from consistent practice and a clear understanding of your own design voice.

Picture yourself staring at a blank page where a complex floor plan needs to become a cohesive spatial narrative. I guide students through this transition by focusing on the specific skills needed for portfolio development and professional design.
My 12 years of experience inform how I address the technical requirements of AutoCAD alongside the subjective nature of design critique. Beginners often find that focusing on the basic elements of architectural history helps ground their modern sustainable design projects.
We move through the nuances of spatial planning and hand sketching to ensure your portfolio stands out to future employers. Whether you are a hobbyist or a career switcher, I adapt my methodical approach to your current skill level.
You learn how to organize your ideas into professional presentation boards that clearly communicate your vision. The process of refinement is where true architectural growth happens. I will be here to support your progress as you develop your unique perspective.
