About Eva
Hello! My name is Eva and I've just graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in Human, Social and Political Sciences. I also studied two years of Theology before changing to Politics so am rather knowledgeable on religion and its related topics.
I've always enjoyed studying and have a particular love of the humanities and the arts. Since starting university I have somewhat missed my A-Level subjects; English Literature, History, Religious Studies, and therefore feel that tutoring would be a great way for me to explore these disciplines again whilst helping and inspiring others!
I aim to aid students with not only learning and understanding new concepts, but also with exam preparation and technique, which is often the key to success.
I have previously mentored younger pupils who were struggling at school, and have also continued this role in university, where I mentor a first year student. I also have experience tutoring students in small groups in my role as Student Ambassador for a Chinese exchange student programme run by my university, so have much experience explaining new ideas and concepts simply, particularly to those who struggle with English.
In terms of topics and modules, I have experience and helpful material for the following modules, but would be happy to prep myself on any other topics brought to me.
English: A variety of the works of Shakespeare, Jane Austen Novels, Wuthering Heights, Frankenstein, Jane Eyre, Of Mice and Men, An Inspector Calls, Death of A Salesman, Catch 22, The Colour Purple, The Great Gatsby, Sylvia Plath Poetry, Ted Hughes Poetry, Thomas Hardy Poetry, William Blake Poetry, Sheridan - The Rivals, Edward Thomas Poetry, Rebecca (Daphne Du Maurier)
History: WW1, WW2, Weimar Germany, The Cold War, Victorian England, Russia (Tsarism to Putinism), The French Revolution, England 1509 - 1685 (The Tudors, Charles 1 and Civil War, The Protectorate and The Restoration).
Religious Studies: Christianity, New Testament, (particularly John's Gospel), Christology, Philosophy (Particularly metaphysics), Ethics, Sociology of Religion, The Protestant Reformation, Christianity in Late Antiquity.
Politics: State Formation, Politics of Iran and Egypt, History of Political Thought 1700 - 1890, Brexit, Authoritarian Russia.
Having sometimes turned to the aid of tutors throughout my time at high school myself, I feel that a calm and patient approach is always important, as well as inspiring a genuine enthusiasm in a student, in order to get the very best from them.
I'm also more than happy to answer questions or give advice on Oxbridge admissions, interviews and applications, or university admissions more generally.
Overall, I'm a chatty, friendly student hoping to help others achieve their full potential!

I was Eva’s manager as she worked as an assistant on a Cambridge Academic Development Seminar (CADS) programme in 2017, which invited university students from China to take part in academic courses in Cambridge for two weeks. One facet of her role was to work with small groups of students as they prepared a presentation. She demonstrated outstanding organisational skills in tutoring English as a foreign language. More generally, she carried out all her tasks with meticulous precision and professionalism, yet also remained adaptable and in tune with the needs of her students. At all times she interacted with the students with profound sensitivity, gaining their respect and trust - and often going the extra mile to help each individual student achieve their potential.
Following my time working with Eva I recommended her for a more senior position in the company as I was so impressed by her performance. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Eva and I couldn’t have asked for any more from an assistant.Eva Kettle tutored me for my English GCSE, I struggled a lot with the texts we were set but Eva helped me make concise notes for the texts I was studying. She was very patient with me especially as I struggled with Wuthering Height's old fashioned language and found it difficult to write essays properly with all the themes and ideas expected at GCSE level. I would highly recommend Eva as a tutor, she is exceptionally academic herself and has a fantastic teaching style - she never once showed if she was frustrated with me and never gave up!
