About Kaya
I’m Kaya, a recent University of Cambridge law graduate who is now pursuing a career as an English teacher in secondary schools. The subjects, as I look at them, are not too dissimilar. Both share an interest in careful textual interpretation, sensitivity to context, and navigating ambiguity. To be academically ‘good’ at both require you to read closely, anticipate counter readings, and communicate conclusions, often in an incredibly creative way.
I adore each subject as a practice, and genuinely love sharing that passion with tutees (and, come 2027, my own classroom!). I am also pedagogically interested in how teaching can be structured to support different learners in achieving increasingly independent and critical responses to texts.

Reasons students pursue private tutoring vary, and so my first lesson will always deal with assessing an individual student, usually by exploring a piece of written work produced by the student in a classroom environment.
I believe strongly in dialogic, practical teaching, to foster enjoyment for a subject (even throughout a period so stressful as GCSE or A-level!). Future lessons will expand on any particular weaknesses or strengths from my initial assessment, utilising problem-centric active learning strategies.
I have supported students throughout all stages of the Oxbridge and Russell Group application process, and have built a strong track record of students gaining places at top universities. My approach is to encourage and provide structure to the inquisitive, creative thinking loved by Oxbridge tutors.
