About Hong-Nam
I am a second-year undergraduate student reading English at the University of Cambridge, where I am involved in the student journalism scene (editing and occasionally writing theatre reviews for TCS); on the committee for Blackbirds Poetry Society; helping to run Clare Literary Society. I have a deep love for music, with over a decade under my belt of playing the violin, studying at institutions such as the JRNCM and the Hallé Youth Orchestra. I would be delighted to share my first-hand experiences with any prospective students of my time here at the university.

I aim to foster a love (and if not, at least a curiosity) for reading English literature which is, I believe, the crucial foundation for success in any academic endeavour - especially in the study of English, where creative persuasive and logical arguments require a certain honesty and self-conviction. Through this, I like to encourage critical thinking by exploring a wider web of reading which - though not necessarily required by examination criteria - contextualises study and leads to a more comprehensive understanding. The Cambridge English degree is unique in its teaching of Practical Criticism, a mode of thinking indispensable to good close reading and analysis - which I intend to employ elements of to take A-level reading to its full potential. I have a long history of tutoring, tutoring privately, with the startup company Study Buddy, and creating study materials as a Junior Consultant for the AI startup Sophos Education; I've tutored levels from as young as 11+, to KS3, GCSE, and A-level students. I'm now excited to engage in these lessons with students who have chosen to study English at A-level and may be considering furthering their interest for the subject in higher education.
