About Matthew
I'm a South Londoner with a BA and MA in English from the University of Cambridge and several years of experience tutoring GCSE and A-Level English Literature.
I've worked with students across a range of abilities, consistently helping them improve their grades, build confidence and get more out of their studies.
I'm a friendly, down-to-earth person who finds it easy to connect with young people. I've always found that students respond best when they feel comfortable with their tutor, can ask questions without feeling judged and are encouraged to express their own opinions.
I genuinely enjoy literature and discussing different ideas and interpretations, and I love helping students reach that point where something that previously seemed difficult suddenly clicks. For me, tutoring is as much about building confidence and curiosity as it is about achieving strong academic results.

My lessons are relaxed, engaging and tailored to each student's abilities, interests and goals. Whether you're struggling with a particular text, looking to improve your essay writing or aiming for the highest grades, I'll work with you to identify where you can make the biggest improvements.
I focus on helping students develop their analytical skills, construct convincing arguments and express their ideas clearly and confidently. Rather than simply teaching students what to think about a text, I encourage them to develop their own interpretations and support them with evidence.
I also believe that enjoying a subject makes a huge difference to how well you perform in it. My approach is supportive, patient and conversational, while keeping lessons focused on achieving tangible progress and better exam results.
