About Sian
Who I am:
I have a first class degree from Cambridge University in English and Theology, and an MA in Theology. I therefore have extensive experience in writing essays that make coherent arguments, generate interest in various topics of debate and develop gain top marks in examinations.
Alongside the imperative to gain good marks, I have a true love for my subjects and I seek to impart this love and enjoyment alongside the hard-skills necessary for success. By encouraging genuine interest in the topics taught, I encourage students to take ownership of their own development at the same time as guiding and teaching them with great care.
I am a friendly, understanding, and encouraging tutor who will push my students to succeed whilst also making them feel comfortable and confident. As a parent myself, I understand how important it is to encourage children to flourish and develop to their full potential.
Tutoring Approach:
My tutoring approach is focused on essay-writing techniques, revision strategies, content-development and wider development. My first task is to understand the individual needs of the student and to work together with them to develop a plan of action for our sessions. Whilst firmly committed to the curriculum's requirements and the focus on exam success, I encourage students to broaden their horizons by developing interests through their own private reading and discussion. Personal interest and self-confidence in the subject is core to success so I believe in making the learning process fun as well as productive.
Alongside my core subjects, I am available to assist with University applications, personal statements, UCAS selections and Oxbridge applications in particular.
Experience:
Throughout my undergraduate and post-graduate studies I have supported fellow students in developing their essay writing and content creation. Essays that I have provided feedback on routinely score well in marking and students gain a sense of confidence through my feedback.
In my professional career I have mentored and coached younger colleagues to achieve specific aims in their work, and have also been involved in the mentoring of young people in my local community. All of this experience influences my approach to tutoring.
