About Hannah
As a Cambridge University Master's graduate with senior leadership qualifications, I bring 28 years of comprehensive educational experience to my tutoring practice. Throughout my career, I have held diverse leadership roles including Head of Classics, Oxbridge Coordinator, EPQ Coordinator, and Scholarship Coordinator across both state and grammar school settings. This breadth of experience has given me deep insights into different educational approaches and the varied pathways to academic success. What drives my passion for tutoring is witnessing those magical moments when a struggling student suddenly grasps a difficult concept or when a confident learner pushes beyond what they thought possible. I specialise in English and Latin because these subjects open doors to critical thinking, cultural understanding, and academic excellence across all disciplines. My approach is built on patience, encouragement, and adaptability. I believe that every student learns differently, and my role is to find the key that unlocks their unique learning style. Whether working with a nervous 11+ candidate or supporting a GCSE student through exam resits, I create a safe space where mistakes become learning opportunities and challenges become stepping stones to success. My Teaching Approach With 28 years of classroom experience and a Cambridge education, I believe every student has unique potential waiting to be unlocked. My teaching philosophy centres on creating a supportive, encouraging environment where students feel confident to make mistakes and learn from them. How I Teach I begin each new student relationship by understanding their individual learning needs, current challenges, and goals. Whether preparing for 11+ entrance exams, tackling GCSE coursework, or retaking exams, I adapt my methods to suit each student's needs. My lessons combine traditional grammar school rigour with modern, engaging techniques that make English and Latin accessible and enjoyable. Each session typically runs for 60-90 minutes, allowing time to review previous work, introduce new concepts, practise skills, and set clear homework tasks. I provide regular progress updates and maintain open communication with parents about their child's development. My Qualifications & Experience As a Cambridge University graduate with nearly three decades in education, including extensive grammar school teaching experience, I bring deep subject knowledge and proven classroom management skills to one-on-one tutoring. I'm a proud member of The Tutors' Association, adhering to professional standards and ethical practices.
