About David
I currently study Economics at the University of Cambridge. I achieved 9th place in the cohort my first year examinations (with first class honours in each of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Mathematics, Statistics and British Economic History).
I was ranked 2nd (with a mark of 86) on my 2nd year Econometrics coursework. Written exams cancelled due to Covid-19. I specialise in Econometrics, Statistics and Mathematical Microeconomics.
During my secondary school years, I was focused on mathematics. I achieved top 10 places at national maths competitions as well as a bronze medal at IOM (Moscow, 2016). I graduated with 5 A*s, including Further Maths and Computer Science (no Economics - I haven't had formal training in it before going to Cambridge).
I am tending toward a career in finance. I have done a summer internship at Barclays (STIR Swaps and FX Options trading) and have a Quant Trader offer from Jane Street. I can help undergraduate students prepare for finance interviews. In my free time I explore algorithmic trading and like doing sports and playing strategy games.

My lessons are based on discovering a topic in depth in a couple of lessons before moving to a new topic. This is essential for a thorough and connected understanding, which often lacks when each topic is taught superficially. The topics are chosen in consultation with the student, after discovering their interests (and weaknesses in case of exam preparation).
In a typical lesson, we start by discussing the homework before starting new material. I tend to give a lot of homework compared to the duration of the lessons for two reasons. Firstly, it is more efficient if the lesson covers the basics and the student has to build on that while solving tasks because it builds a deeper understanding and is more engaging. (This is in part the cause of the success of the traditional Oxbridge tutorial system). Secondly, if the student finds the amount of homework excessive, they can decide to neglect part of it - this is better than not having enough questions to practice with.
I have prepared students receiving Economics offers from, among others, Cambridge, UCL and Manchester.
I am geared towards the more mathematical and data side of economics, as modern Economics courses recognise the need to train economists who are comfortable working with quantitative models. The job market provides excellent opportunities to those who are able to work with data in a rigorous way and economists need to have a very good understanding of statistical theory and modelling.
