About Kim

I am a University of Cambridge Computer Science graduate and UCL graduate with over 10 years of tutoring experience, having taught more than 50 students across the UK and internationally.

Having been educated in the UK from primary school through to university, I have first-hand experience of the British education system, from GCSE and A-Level through to competitive university admissions.

I have worked with students across a wide range of starting points and abilities. Previous students have progressed from C/D grades to A/A*, and I have also taught accelerated programmes in which students have covered two years of A-Level content within approximately 6–9 months, depending on their starting point and weekly lesson commitment.

My teaching experience includes GCSE and A-Level Maths, Further Maths and Computer Science, as well as Physics and Chemistry. I have also supported students with applications to competitive UK universities, including Oxbridge.

My aim is not simply to help students answer the questions in front of them, but to develop the understanding and independent problem-solving skills that allow them to tackle increasingly difficult and unfamiliar problems on their own.

A key part of my teaching is identifying exactly where a student’s understanding breaks down. Students often know that they cannot solve a problem, but they do not necessarily know what they do not understand.

A student may understand the underlying concept but fail to recognise when it applies. Another may know the correct method but not understand why it works. Others may struggle to interpret the question, identify relevant information, or transfer familiar knowledge to an unfamiliar problem. These are different learning gaps and require different solutions.

I use targeted questioning throughout lessons to trace the student’s reasoning and identify the precise point at which it breaks down. Rather than simply correcting an answer or reteaching an entire topic, we work from that point to rebuild the missing understanding and then test whether the student can explain and apply it independently.

Once the foundations are secure, I progressively introduce more difficult and unfamiliar questions, including past-paper and exam-style problems. The goal is for students to move beyond recognising questions they have seen before and learn how to determine for themselves which concepts and methods a new problem requires.

Lessons are individually structured around the student’s current level, target grade and timeline. Where appropriate, I also offer accelerated programmes for students who want to complete the curriculum substantially faster than the conventional school timetable.

Lessons are typically 90 minutes, although the length and weekly frequency can be adjusted according to the student’s goals.
