About Darcey
I am a passionate, empathetic, bubbly and patient individual, placing enjoyment and the joint fostering of a collaborative and comfortable working relationship at the centre of my teaching ethos.
Though I also studied Biology and Chemistry at A-Level, Music is the area which brings me greatest joy and room for curiosity, both academically and practically. I am a second-year Music undergraduate at the Queen's College Oxford, where I also hold a choral scholarship. The Music degree is much broader than one might expect - often stretching beyond the notes on the page to relevant philosophy, history and politics. Thus, I am uniquely able to approach tuition of Music at all stages and disciplines holistically and creatively, so as to best suit the needs of the individual student and perhaps help them to see it in a new light, sparking their wider interest.
My experience as welfare coordinator for large productions and within a student body, in addition to my educational experience within schools, equips me well with the tools to keep students happy and excited. This, in turn, enhances the self-confidence and belief which is so foundational to their ability to thrive and progress within academic environments, both within the tutorials and back in the classroom.

I believe self-confidence and joy sit at the heart of academic success - this belief fundamentally shapes the approach I take to teaching and to my own learning. I thoroughly enjoy forming thoughtful, productive, and happy relationships with students, and my significant experience within educational and welfare settings prepares me well to do this with students of ages 11-20.
I offer tutoring in GCSE Music (Edexcel) & A Level Music (AQA), Oxbridge Tutoring (interview practice, written work, and general advice) and ABRSM Music Theory. Sessions are online and typically one hour, though length and frequency of discussions can absolutely be adjusted to best support the student alongside their additional commitments.
Before arriving at Oxford, I achieved an A* in Music A-Level, a 9 in Music GCSE, and an A* in my EPQ on Music Therapy. Having arrived at Music from a scientific background, I am particularly well placed to support students who enjoy those academic areas too. In addition, Oxford's rounded and holistic course structure allows me to retrospectively tackle and discuss earlier learning stages with students from a unique angle. Students might find that this proves more accessible and engaging than a purely straightforward approach.
