About Aline
My name is Aline, and I have been teaching English as a Second Language for over 10 years. I hold a teaching degree in Biology and a master's degree in genetics of bacteria, and my passion for education has always been at the heart of everything I do.
My journey into ESL teaching began after an academic exchange program to the United States, where I studied Biology and lived the reality of navigating life in another language. When I returned to Brazil, I noticed something that stayed with me: so many intelligent, capable people felt paralyzed by the fear of speaking English. They were afraid of making mistakes, afraid of being judged, and that fear was holding them back — in their academic lives, their careers, and beyond.
That realization was the moment I knew I wanted to teach. Not just to pass on grammar rules, but to show people that learning English does not have to be a traumatic or intimidating experience. Mistakes are not failures — they are a natural and necessary part of the process, and my classroom is a safe space to make them.
Now I live in New Zealand and in the final stages of my PhD at Massey University, I bring a unique perspective to my lessons: I am both an experienced educator and a lifelong language learner myself. I know what it takes to build confidence in a second language.

My approach to teaching
I believe the best way to learn a language is through real communication — not just grammar drills. My lessons are conversational and practical, tailored to each student's goals, whether that's everyday English, academic writing, pronunciation, or professional communication.
Techniques & methodology
I draw on communicative language teaching, meaning we focus on actually using English from day one. I incorporate listening, speaking, reading, and writing in a balanced way, and I adapt my methods to how you learn best. For Portuguese speakers, I also address the specific challenges our language creates — false cognates, verb tenses, articles — so you progress faster.
Lesson length
Lessons are typically 60 minutes.
Qualifications & experience
I hold a degree in Biology and have been teaching ESL for 10 years. I am currently completing my PhD at Massey University in New Zealand, which has sharpened my skills in academic English and scientific writing. I have taught mainly Brazilian students trying to learn or improve their English skills.
