Teaching Methodology: My teaching approach focuses on building strong conceptual understanding while equipping students with the skills needed to perform well in examinations.
Conceptual Understanding First: Biology is often perceived as a memorisation-heavy subject, but success, especially at the JC level requires genuine understanding of underlying mechanisms and processes. I focus on helping students understand the “why” and “how” behind biological concepts so they can apply their knowledge confidently to unfamiliar exam questions.
Structured and Interactive Lessons: Lessons are carefully structured to introduce concepts progressively, reinforce understanding through discussion, and consolidate learning through targeted practice. I encourage students to ask questions freely and maintain an open learning environment where difficult concepts can be clarified thoroughly.
Exam Answering Techniques: Biology requires precise answering aligned with the exam marking scheme. I guide students on identifying key command words, structuring answers clearly, and incorporating the specific biological terminology examiners expect.
Targeted Practice and Exam Preparation: Students receive customised practice questions based on their areas of weakness. We work through past-year and school examination questions to identify common question patterns and develop effective answering strategies.
Consistent Revision and Reinforcement: Regular revision ensures students retain key concepts across topics such as molecular biology, genetics, and physiology. This helps build connections between topics and strengthens long-term understanding.
Communication with Parents: I maintain open communication with parents and provide updates on the student’s progress, areas of improvement, and strategies to support their learning.
