About Kelvin
Hello, my name is Kelvin Agbasimalo, I am 28 years old and a science teacher. I have taught for 4 years now and absolutely love teaching. I wasn’t always going to become a teacher, however when I started my degree I discovered a new passion for sharing my love of learning. I didn’t start straight away as a teacher, I was a TA for 2 years and really enjoyed it but I just felt as though I wasn’t impacting the learning journeys of the students as much as I wanted to, so I began my teaching journey, and it was challenging to say the least but absolutely the best decision I’ve made since I have begun working at 18. During this entire time I was tutoring, establishing my name and ability to teach 1-2-1, which is very different to teaching a whole class of 30 students, and I must say, not only has it deepened my subject knowledge but also my compassion, patience and most definitely resilience. Learning is about stretching your mind and having curiosity about the world, I chose science, and I haven’t regretted till this day. I hope I can also help you to choose the correct pathway of learning you would like to embark on. My students would describe as fair, firm and funny – which I agree with. Learning doesn’t have to be boring, it can most certainly be fun and entertaining but it must be taken seriously.

I believe all lessons must be tailored to the student specifically, I find consistent encouragement and firm guidance works very well. Always make sure to let students know that perseverance is key to success. I find that most students will do better with either an hour or 1.5-hour long lessons. I tend to advise that KS4 to go with 1.5-hour long lessons and KS3 with an hour or for students with SEN such as ADHD 45-50min long lessons. I have tutored 5 years and have learnt a lot about the best techniques to teach 1-2-1. I tutor both KS3 and KS4, higher and foundation and also specialise in teaching SEN students, from learning disabilities to behavioural needs.
