About Madison
Hello! My name is Maddy and I am a writing tutor for all levels!
I graduated from the University of California, Davis with a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences and Communications and am currently a master's student studying Conservation Biology. Between obtaining my bachelor's degree and now, I spend 4 years working in neuroscience and animal behavior research. I have loved writing since I was a child and am a published author on 6 social advocacy, neurobiology and animal behavior scientific papers.
My goal is to help students become better communicators! Writing is an essential skill and a great way to express your thoughts, feelings, ideas, and so much more! I look forward to helping you achieve your writing goals!

My tutoring ethos aims to provide students with real-world writing skills. My students learn to communicate through writing in ways that can be applied to various scenarios - whether it be for a job or graduate school application, argument or opinion essays, scientific works directed to peer-reviewed journals, personal essay writing, etc. Lessons can be between 1-3 hours long (depending on what you'd like help with).
Students will learn the following writing skills (where applicable):
- Basic essay structuring
- Proofreading and editing strategies
- Argument structure
- Proper referencing and resource citation
- Finding a personal writing style
- Personal statement and cover letter writing
- Professional scientific writing
If there are particular areas of your writing you would like to work on, have a specific assignment or application piece you'd like assistance on, need to start from the basics, or any other writing goals, I'm here to help!
