About Ana

I am a graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences and a minor in Chemistry from Chapman University. During my undergraduate studies, I worked as a Teaching Assistant (TA) and Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader for several courses, including General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, General Biology, Molecular Biology, and Biochemistry. Through these roles, I helped hundreds of students improve their grades, strengthen their study habits, and build confidence in challenging STEM courses.

My background as both a tutor and a medical translator has taught me how to explain complex scientific concepts in a clear, supportive, and relatable way. I am fully bilingual in English and Spanish, allowing me to support students who prefer or benefit from learning in either language.

I am passionate about teaching because I understand how overwhelming science courses can feel without the right guidance. My goal is to create a welcoming learning environment where every student feels comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and progressing at their own pace.

Whether you are preparing for an exam, catching up on coursework, or aiming to master Biology or Chemistry, I am here to support you with patience, structure, and proven teaching experience. I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals!

My Teaching Approach

As a tutor, my goal is to make difficult science topics feel clear, manageable, and logical. I teach using a student-centered approach that focuses on breaking down complex concepts into simple steps, using real examples, visuals, and active practice to build confidence. My method combines the structure of university-level teaching with the patience and clarity of one-on-one support.

Teaching Method & Techniques

I start by identifying what the student already understands and where their gaps are.

I use simple language, diagrams, and analogies to explain challenging biology and chemistry concepts.

I teach students how to think through problems the way professors expect — not just memorize.

I incorporate exam-style practice questions and guide students through how to approach each one.

I continuously check understanding and adapt explanations until the student feels confident.

Because I am bilingual, I can switch between English and Spanish to help students who learn better in both languages.

A Typical Lesson Plan

Quick check-in: What topic are we covering today? Any class notes or exam feedback?

Brief review: Connect today’s topic to what the student already knows to build strong foundations.

Concept breakdown: Clear, step-by-step explanation using visuals or examples.

Guided practice: We solve problems together so the student learns the reasoning behind each step.

Independent practice: The student tries a question while I support and correct in real time.

Mini-summary: We recap key points and I give study strategies for the week or upcoming exams.

Lessons are always adapted to the student’s pace and learning style.

What Sets Me Apart

University Teaching Assistant experience in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, General Biology, Molecular Biology, and Biochemistry.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) leader trained in collaborative learning techniques.

Pre-med background, so I know how to teach science with clarity, structure, and long-term retention.

Bilingual (Spanish/English) — I can explain complex science topics in either language.

Patient, supportive, and non-judgmental teaching style, especially helpful for students who feel intimidated by chemistry or biology.

Strong communication skills from years of medical translation and teaching experience.

Who My Lessons Are For

My tutoring is ideal for:

High school students taking Biology, Chemistry, AP Bio, or AP Chem

College students in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, General Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Biochemistry

Pre-med and pre-health students seeking support in foundational science courses

Adult learners returning to school for science prerequisites

Spanish-speaking students who benefit from bilingual explanations

I adapt my lessons to each student’s level, goals, and class requirements.
