About Rachel
"Performing for 8 years in NYC and on tour provided the foundation for my teaching philosophy. I hold a BFA in Musical Theater from NYU Tisch, which influences how I teach piano to hobbyists, professionals, and returning learners. Having guided 269 students, I have seen how common struggles with hand independence or sight reading can be overcome with patience. My background allows me to simplify complex music theory or jazz improvisation into manageable steps for anyone at any level.
You might find that my approach is quite conversational, as I like to treat our time as a collaborative exploration of the instrument. I simply promise to keep our focus on making the music feel like an extension of your own voice."

"Considering that music should be a joy, I often focus on how sight reading and ear training can actually feel like a fun mental puzzle rather than a chore. My BFA from NYU Tisch ensures that every session involves a deep understanding of rhythm and timing, even when we are just working on simple scales or arpeggios. For my hobbyists and professional students, we often spend time balancing classical repertoire with pedaling technique to get the best sound possible. I have spent 13 years in the industry, and I bring that background into how I explain sight transposition or the nuances of jazz improvisation.
We will treat the piano as a tool for expression, ensuring that hand independence becomes second nature through steady, deliberate practice. It really is quite satisfying to see the progress that intermediate learners make once they find their flow on the keys. Building a connection to the music is always the most enjoyable part of the process."
