About Jill
I have been writing and singing music for the last 15 years and have studied formally under several experts in their field including Annette Philip, Nancy Cooper, and Don Lawrence. I have also mentored under the legendary Nona Hendryx and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Berklee College of Music in Music in Special Education. My original music has received international coverage and been included in various esteemed Spotify editorial playlists including Fresh Finds and Fresh Finds Indie. I am a fixture of the Brooklyn indie music scene where I am known for my genre bending writing and production as well as my unique vocal and performance style. I identify as nonbinary and am a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and I see it as a core value to provide this community with the representation and guidance which my formal training at times might have lacked.

I have over 15 years of experience studying voice and singing professionally both in studio and live settings. I am a practitioner of the "Lawrence approach", an adapted version of the Bel Canto technique geared toward pop-rock stylings which was coined by Don Lawrence, under whom I studied for many years. I have further adapted this approach to include emphasis on finding one's personal tone and sound, both in terms of playing to one's vocal strengths and expressing oneself as an artist aesthetically. My approach, based on the preferences and goals of the student, also extends to strengthening one's stage presence and finding a sound which aligns with the student's gender expression. My lessons always begin with a warmup tailored to specific vocal needs and then progress to applying these techniques to material that is specific to the student's specific goals and projects. I teach singers of all skill levels and backgrounds who are looking to perfect a personalized pop/rock sound.
