About Madeline
I have previous experience tutoring elementary students in phonetic reading and grammar and have volunteer work with disabled children. I also assisted students as an aide to a high school secretary. At UC Berkeley, I study American Studies with an area of concentration in education. I seek to understand how school culture impacts marginalized students, whether they be disabled, BIPOC, LGBT+, homeless, and much more, and how we can alter our school environments to engage and empower all students, regardless of background. This translates over into a passion for educating students, and makes me a great candidate for a tutoring job. I am most passionate about literature and social sciences, and am currently in good academic standing with a 3.9 GPA.

My teaching method is one of understanding, communication, flexibility, and positivity. As a student myself, I understand how difficult it can be to ask questions, struggle with material, and be comfortable with your teacher. I hope to form meaningful bonds with my students that allow us to maintain positive attitudes, be open about difficulties in understanding, and be flexible in how we approach and understand concepts. The biggest threat to the learning today is not a phone, friends, or the distractions of being at home, but rather boredom. In getting to know my students, I will know how to keep them engaged, excited, and on task.
